forweb

Universal Knowledge Software (UKS) the leader in library and information management software in Africa, was proud to announce that DUT is their very first client in Africa to go live on toBLUEcloud, the latest in the evolution of SirsiDynix Library Systems. BLUEcloud offers a comprehensive, next generation library service platform. A successful launch was held on Monday, 14 March 2016 at the Steve Biko Campus Library with Prof Bawa as the Guest of Honour. It was also launched at the Riverside Campus Library in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 15 March 2016. The launches were planned to coincide with South African Library Week which was celebrated nationally from the 14 to 19 March 2016 with the theme #Libraries 4lifelonglearning.

Staff and students were very excited to download the free BookMyne app on their smart phones. BookMyne allows them to search the DUT catalogue from anywhere 24/7. They can also renew books, update their profile and place holds. They can even scan the ISBN of a book in a bookstore before purchasing it, to check if it is available at any of the six DUT libraries. The BookMyne app is available for iOS and Android devices.

DUT staff will be using BLUEcloud Analytics, Central and Cataloguing modules to begin with and are eagerly awaiting the release of the Circulation module. Exciting times lie ahead for both the staff and students of DUT and the Library Services department.
