Increasing Costs Lead to Subscriptions Cancellation

Due to the currency fluctuations and rise in journal subscription costs, DUT Library has been forced to cancel subscriptions in order to stay within the allocated budget. Even though titles were cancelled in 2015, the volatile exchange rate, rise in publisher prices and additional VAT payable on electronic resources from 2015 stretched the periodicals budget beyond its limits.

The DUT Library endeavours to ensure that the renewal process is collaborative and dependent on usage statistics for data-driven decision making. The library undertook a comprehensive renewal process in mid-2015, with input from faculty and staff that identified 123 journals periodical titles for cancellation effective 2016. In addition 9 databases and 1 e-book package were identified for cancellation.
