The DUT libraries have taken up a knitting project for a children’s organisation. The library staff have been knitting squares to make blankets for the cold winter nights. During Mandela Day 67 minutes the staff will get together and join those knitted squares to make up as many blankets or throws that they can and hand them over to Durban Child and Youth Care Centre. This organisation, situated in the Glenwood area, is responsible for the care of 82 orphaned and vulnerable children and depends on the generosity of the local and wider community to support the work they do.
The library staff also plans to continue with their knitting project to support next year’s 67 Blankets for Mandela Day Challenge and will be issuing a challenge to other departments. in the DUT community and possibly other Universities of Technology.
