Greetings from the Library!
The Durban University of Technology Library continues in its role of being a dynamic partner in the DUT learning community, dedicated to the provision of full and equal access to information and the preservation of our intellectual output. Our aim is to broaden the learning experience, encourage creativity and scholarship at all levels and ultimately develop an effective library that can meet current and future information needs. The Library was a hub of activity this past term and subject librarians participated in the roll-out of the Cornerstone and General Education modules by teaching Information Literacy as part of these modules. The key outcomes of Information Literacy are access to information resources and the ethical and legal use of information. These training sessions allow students to engage with library resources that are directly related to their course research. Students are also introduced to LibGuides which are course-specific online research guides to which students can refer.
Library Management and middle management staff have finalised the Library Strategic Plan for 2015-19. The Library strategic plan is an imaginative, innovative and flexible response to the institutional strategic plan. The objectives of the library as indicated in our strategic plan focus on student centredness and engagement with faculties and departments of the university, both of which we constantly strive to achieve. The Library goals align with and advance the goals of the institution.
Despite budgetary issues caused by the decreasing value of the rand against international currencies, rising costs and limited budgets, the library is committed to ensuring that cutting-edge information resources can be accessed from virtually any device, at any time or location.
