Predatory Publishing

What constitutes predatory publishing

Predatory or rogue journals are publications which publish scholarly work without engaging in proper scholarly publishing practices. They see profit over contribution to scholarship.

Predatory Journals

  • Don’t follow best practices in scholarly publishing
  • Abuse the gold open access model and obligate the author to pay publishing costs
  • Make false claims of high impact factors for their journals

Consequences of publishing in these journals

  • Cost to you and the institution
  • Your reputation and your institution are compromised
  • Once published, you cannot resubmit your article to a reputable publisher!

Accredited Journal List

To avoid publishing in predatory journals, ensure that you consult the accredited journal list available on the DUT Library website.

Remember!! It is important to check the quality of a journal before submitting your work. Always check if the journal is indexed, peer reviewed and whether it has a legitimate impact factor.
