The Siyaphumelela project focusing on student success is running the South African Survey of Student Engagement (SASSE) which is open to all undergraduate and B.Tech. students. BTechs you are considered undergraduate for SASSE purposes. What does SASSE measure? It asks you about how hard you work (effort students put into their studies and other educationally purposeful activities) but it also asks you how hard you think DUT is working to help you succeed (does the university provide the right support structures? Does DUT enable your participation in activities that matter to student learning?). Students who completed the 2016 SASSE said that their education at DUT contributed significantly to their writing, speaking and critical thinking skills, their ability to work effectively with others and their job-related knowledge. Students also enjoyed group work with their peers (collaborative learning). These results help us plan what and how we teach (curriculum design), work-integrated learning courses and tutorial support programmes. About 1800 students participated in SASSE in 2016. This year, the Siyaphumelela project team is aiming to triple student participation to over 5000 students. We need YOU to participate to reach this goal. Registered students stand a chance of winning great prizes by completing the survey in full. Students could win a grand prize of R1000 if they participate in the #DUTSASSE “Coolest Pic” competition and weekly lucky draw prizes. Look out for competition details on the Radio DUT website and Facebook page.
SASSE is open until 12th October only.
